Critical network upgrades facilitates WLAN connectivity throughout 30 schools in Aberdeen
Boston Networks is working in partnership with Aberdeen City Council to upgrade its existing LAN infrastructure; paving the way for the seamless integration of a new Wireless LAN, throughout 30 primary and secondary schools.
Aberdeen City Councils existing Education network is a hybrid infrastructure, connecting a number of education establishments, throughout the city. The recent, exponential adoption of mobile device technology has increased the demand for a more flexible mobile working environment therefore to facilitate this, the Council embarked on a project to extend its existing wireless infrastructure, across its entire education estate.
The key aspects of the project was to bolster the existing network capacity, encompassing:
- Wireless Coverage Survey - to ensure coverage of network communications throughout the multiple buildings across the city.
- Additional survey work - to clarify power & data requirements to support the new wireless infrastructure.
- Design and deployment of Cat6 cabling infrastructure upgrades.
- Installation, configuration and testing of Juniper Wireless Access Points.
Boston Networks delivered the improved LAN infrastrcture for Aberdeen City Council; completing the internal wireless coverage surveys along with Cabling and Installation of internal wireless in 29 Primary Schools and 2 Academies.
The detailed Wireless surveys, clarified the entire scope of the project to ensure the necessary bandwidth and coverage requirements were met and that potential ‘hot spot’ areas, and associated issues were eliminated.
Boston Networks were then able to design a robust upgrade path to the Council’s existing network, to deliver the best possible communication solution, yet taking in to consideration multiple health and safety policies.
The new WLAN delivers seamless mobility and the performance required to support the transmission of wireless data, voice and video, across the council’s estate.
The flexibility of the solution allows the council to control the entire WLAN from a central location. The upgrades to the existing infrastructure have added resiliency and facilitated the scalability of the council’s network. Should the WLAN be compromised the system seamlessly deals with the issue, Local access points maintain connectivity and the service continues uninterrupted.
