Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games gets connected through Boston Networks link-up

Boston Networks have today (Tuesday, November 19) been appointed as Official Cabling Services Provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

As an Official Provider for the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee, Boston Networks will be responsible for the delivery of cabling infrastructure required across all Games venues.The current estimated scope of this includes the installation of over 3,000 individual cable outlets and over 100km of fibre optic cabling.

Boston Networks was founded in 2000 and is a Scottish-owned company with its main headquarters based in Glasgow, in addition to further offices in Edinburgh, Gateshead and Bolton.The company has now been deploying, supporting and managing cabling infrastructure for a range of UK customers for more than a decade.

With their roots in cabling, Boston Network’s in-house, highly skilled structured cabling teams have a strong record of delivering projects to an exceptional standard on time and on budget.Boston Networks is a UK leader in the design, planning, installation and support of high-performance cabling systems.

They offer the best of breed technologies and deliver a comprehensive range of bespoke cabling solutions and professional Support Services throughout the UK.The systems are in a host of diverse environments such as construction new builds, schools, hospitals, retail outlets and data centres.

All cabling for the Games will be installed on a temporary basis and will be removed after the Games to be recycled in accordance with industry standards, but there may be an opportunity for individual venues to retain it upon request.

1. The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event involving 70 teams of athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 and takes place every four years. Glasgow 2014 will be the 20th Commonwealth Games and will be held from 23 July to 3 August. It will feature 17 sports in 11 days of competition with 261 medal events on show. The Games will play host to 4500 athletes and sell 1,000,000 tickets with the event aided by an army of up to 15,000 local volunteers. Glasgow 2014 Ltd is the official name for the Organising Committee tasked with delivering the Games in partnership with the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Commonwealth Games Scotland.
