Are you ready for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)?
Did you know that recent evidence suggests a BYOD approach to teaching increases student achievement and engagement? Moreover, in the next three years, one in four pupils will be using a mobile computing device in the classroom?

Do you have a BYOD strategy in place? We are already working with a number of Schools, Colleges, Universities and Local Authorities to help them design and deliver BYOD Wireless Solutions. Contact us for more information.

Featured Case Study
Wireless Solution for Edinburgh Napier University

In the past, Edinburgh Napier University had utilised leased fibre services to transfer student records and course information. However, Edinburgh Napier was looking for a more cost-effective, secure, and reliable way to provide connectivity between its Craiglockhart and Sighthill Campuses.

Boston Networks selected a high capacity, gigabit Ethernet wireless system for its ability to provide carrier-grade network performance. The system was deployed within two weeks, giving the University the capacity, security, and reliability needed to support their growing IT requirements.

“The high bandwidth solution from Boston Networks, utilising BridgeWave technology, has saved the University enormously on cost, lead-time and the disruption normally associated with a traditional fibre install.” Edinburgh Napier University. Read the full case study here

The University of Aberdeen’s £57m ‘glow in the dark’ library building opened last month. Spanning 7 floors, with over 13km of shelves to house over half a million books, the library provides a learning environment of the highest quality that is light spacious and elegant. The facade of the building will shimmer in daylight and glow in the evening and has been heralded as a beacon of light for the city.

The new library buildings credentials have been rated as ‘excellent’ under BREEAM and the building has been recognised for maximising energy efficiency and providing the highest standards of sustainability, material choices and safety and security.

Boston Networks worked with the University’s Architect and Electrical contractor to supply and install a structured cabling infrastructure, to meet the detailed design requirements of the impressive building.

As part of the extensive project, the Boston team installed the Category 6 structured cabling from the existing under floor consolidation boxes, routing them efficiently to precisely match the library’s newly installed desk modules; thus creating over 1000 usable workstations. The students can now access the University’s extensive library archives, networks, media databases and the internet directly from all of the aforementioned workstations.

Boston Networks also worked with the University to design and commission a state of the art IP Network Video Surveillance system which has been seamlessly integrated with the University’s existing system and deployed throughout the new library building. Encompassing over 45 IP cameras, all of which are run over the University’s network, the system is centrally managed by intelligent video management software, allowing the university to simply retrieve, review and export video footage.

Boston Networks is thrilled to announce it is one of only five companies to be awarded supplier status within the UK Structured Cabling Framework Agreement from The Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC).

The Structured Cabling Framework Agreement is made up of two lots. Due to the massive transformation of Salford University, lot one is solely dedicated to works being carried out for the University and Lot two encompasses contracts for all other UK CPC member organisations.

The Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC) is owned by and run on behalf of the Further Education Sector and is committed to providing its members with a first class procurement service, which provides excellent value for money from contracted supplies and services. With over 1000 members spanning Further Education, Academies, Private Schools and Museums, CPC is the only “FE focused” purchasing consortium in the UK.

As one of the awarded suppliers, Boston Networks has unrivalled expertise in the design and installation of network cabling infrastructures, using BICSI accredited building systems designers and working with world leading technology partners. Boston Networks provide future proof and scalable solutions to guarantee high speed connectivity and facilitate the integration of data, voice and video, as well as emerging IP building services such as network video surveillance, access control and environmental monitoring systems.

Commenting on the award, Scott McEwan, Managing Director, Boston Networks states, “With unrivalled expertise in the Education market, deploying cabling services, wireless solutions and emerging network technologies, Boston Networks is thrilled to be awarded supplier status by CPC.

With over 116 suppliers expressing interest in the framework and for Boston Networks to be one of only five suppliers awarded is a great testament to the growth of the business as well as our nationwide capabilities. We look forward to working with CPC and continuing to shape the future of technology in Education.”
