Merseytravel is the combined Passenger Transport Authority (PTA) and Executive (PTE) for Merseyside, working to promote the interests of Merseyside's travelling public.
Committed to providing the best possible services and value for money, Merseytravel seeks to fully integrate an environmentally friendly public transport network, accessible to all. Covering the entire area of Merseyside, Merseytravel spans the five districts of Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Knowsley and Sefton; and co-ordinates public transport including bus, rail and ferry services.
Business Challenge
Merseytravel was relocating its head quarters to a new location in the stunning £112 million Mann Island development on Merseyside Docks, Liverpool and required a high performing, intelligent cabling infrastructure to be designed and deployed throughout the new state of the art building.
Spanning fourteen stories and with a floor area of approximately 13,000 m2, the new HQ’s infrastructure was required to facilitate over 450 desks, an assembly room, numerous meeting rooms, executive suites and training facilities.

The bespoke infrastructure design utilises a flood wired grid system to provide distributed communications throughout the vast building, thus allowing employees to gain fast, secure and seamless ‘access anywhere’ to multiple voice, data and video services.
Furthermore, with the adoption of Brand Rex single mode fibre optic backbone cabling, the cutting edge infrastructure is reinforced with resiliency to eliminate point of failures and to support Merseytravel’s nine communication rooms – delivering unrivalled levels of business continuity to the busy HQ.
