Boston Networks has delivered the latest phase of Renfrewshire Council’s £1m Public Wi-Fi initiative as free public Wi-Fi internet is rolled out to Renfrew Town Centre.
Visitors to Renfrew will now have fast and easy internet access from key outdoor areas as part of a wider programme to make local town centres more attractive places to visit.
The service went live in Johnstone earlier this year, and will be switched on in key outdoor areas in Paisley town centre next month. The free Wi-Fi can also be accessed within many public buildings around the area – including town halls, libraries, council offices and some children’s homes.
Jim Paterson, Deputy Leader at Renfrewshire Council visited Renfrew town centre to test it out for himself, and said:
“The council made this investment in free public Wi-Fi across our three biggest town centres to make them more attractive places to visit and drive footfall to local businesses.
“We live in an increasingly-connected world and access to fast, reliable internet is now an everyday necessity for many. This service is already proving popular in Johnstone and we are delighted Renfrew town centre can now benefit too, with Paisley to follow soon.”
Iain Kerr, Operations Manager at Boston Networks commented:
“We are delighted to complete the latest phase of the project, which will see high speed Wi-Fi internet access rolled out throughout Renfrew town centre.
“As a Renfrewshire business, we’re thrilled to be working in partnership with the council to design and deliver these fantastic new digital public services. This will not only provide free internet access for residents, but will deliver multiple benefits for local businesses; offering visitors to the town centre and public buildings fast and easy access to information on local services and events.“
Boston Networks was awarded the £6 million-pound Framework Agreement to supply and deliver Public Wi-Fi connectivity for Renfrewshire Council in Spring 2017.
Since then Boston Networks has worked closely with Renfrewshire Council, to design and deliver each phase of the leading-edge, secure and fully managed wireless solution throughout key towns and public buildings in the Renfrewshire area.
Visitors access the Public Wi-Fi service quickly and easily through a bespoke self-registration user experience portal. The Wi-Fi Spark platform offers Renfrewshire Council the opportunity to promote and advertise relevant local information specific to each town centre to a wide range of users.
As well as the design and deployment of the Public Wi-Fi service, Boston Networks is monitoring all system elements and providing end user support to ensure 24/7 connectivity, exceptional quality of service, and super-fast incident resolution
